USS Lewis B. Puller (ESB-3), (formerly USNS Lewis B. Puller (T-ESB-3), and (T-MLP-3/T-AFSB-1) prior to that) [17] [18] is the first purpose-built expeditionary mobile base vessel (previously classified as a mobile landing platform, and then as an afloat forward staging base) for the United States Navy, and the second ship to be named in honor of Chesty Puller.
The then-unnamed vessel was ordered on 30 July 2014 from Fincantieri at a cost of €600 million. [4] [12] The ship was planned to carry the same features and design as her two sister ships, Royal Princess and Regal Princess. [4]
The first ship of the class, Ivan Gren, was laid down on 23 December 2004. The hull of Ivan Gren was completed by the end of November 2010. On 9 October 2010 a contract to increase work on the vessel was signed. [6] The ship was launched on 18 May 2012 and was scheduled to be delivered to the Russian Navy by 2014.
The ship is 199 meters (652 ft 11 in) long, 31 meters (101 ft 8 in) wide, with a 14,000-ton (empty) or 18,000-ton (full) displacement, and was built incorporating stealth technologies. As a high-speed amphibious ship, the LPX was based on the concept of "over-the-horizon assault."
The ship has been chartered to the Danish shipping and logistics company Maersk since it was delivered in 2015. [ 9 ] On 11 July 2016, Dali collided (in maritime terms, allided [ a ] ) with the berth at the container terminal in the Port of Antwerp , Belgium , causing significant damage to her stern and transom . [ 11 ]

The ship's anti-roll system will not function when the period of the ship's roll is less than 11.9 seconds.
