The original Bausch & Lomb design is now commercially marketed as Ray-Ban Aviators, although other manufacturers also produce aviator-style sunglasses.
The modern monobrowline originated in the 1980s, as part of an effort by Bausch and Lomb to diversify their Ray-Ban sunglass collection with the Wayfarer Max, a fusion of the then-popular Wayfarer and Clubmaster sunglass models.
Before Luxottica bought the Brand "Ray-Ban" from Bausch & Lomb in 1999 - discontinuing the (long established) shapes and features of the original B&L Wayfarer-Design (B&L 5022 and 5024) replacing it with their own designs and often denying historical facts - the Bausch&Lomb "Wayfarer" had made its way through the changes noted above.
