Army IBA was established by the BUP Act 2009 on January 15, 2015, by the Bangladesh Army, under the supervision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and was inaugurated on March 5, 2015, by the former Education Minister, Nurul Islam Nahid. The Bangladesh National Cadet Corps ( BNCC) is a tri-services volunteer reserve defence force comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force wing for school, college and university students. It is the second line of defence headed by Bangladesh Army. Students are trained by military staffs and personnel all through the cadet ship.
The institute was formed on 19 March 1973 at Comilla Cantonment. It was originally called School of Infantry. In 1974, the tactical wing was added and it was moved to Jessore Cantonment and renamed School of Infantry and Tactics. In the same year it was renamed COMBAS and divided into separate schools for armour, artillery, engineers, and infantry.
A journal, called the 'BAUET Journal', is published annually in order to preserve the scientific discoveries of the university. Both the students and teachers publish scientific articles regularly in this journal. The university authority provides large amounts of research grants to promising research projects which are conducted at the university.
