Bally was founded as a shoe making business in 1851 by Carl Franz Bally and his brother Fritz in the basement of their family home in Schönenwerd, Solothurn, Switzerland. Carl Franz Bally had joined the family business, a silk ribbon manufacturer, when he was 17, but decided to go into shoe manufacturing after a stay in Paris.

WSS, formerly known as Warehouse Shoe Sale, is a national retail chain of shoe stores headquartered in Los Angeles, California, with 92 retail outlets as of January 2020. [1] Its parent company is Eurostar, Inc. [2] The company now known as WSS traces its roots to 1977 when Eric Alon first sold shoes at a swap meet.
After waking up the following day and saying his prayers, he found the shoes finished and perfectly well-made on his workbench. By 1928, the brothers operated 12 Chandler's stores; the next year, the company went public, using the money raised to open 14 more Baker's stores and three more Chandler's stores, and moved its headquarters to St. Louis.
