"subject recommendation") was a civil service examination system in Imperial China administered for the purpose of selecting candidates for the state bureaucracy.
The examination consists of only two papers: Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech courses and Paper 2 for B.Arch and B.Planning courses. A candidate can opt for any or both the papers. Paper 1 is mandatorily a computer based test (called online mode) from 2018 onwards. Until 2018, there was an option between offline pen and paper mode and online computer mode.
The usual starting time for each exam was 10:30 am but depending on the length and/or maximum marks for the subject, the finishing time was either 12:30 pm (2 hours, shorter exams, usually 40-50 marks) or 1:30 pm (3 hours, long exams, usually 70-80 marks).
