Why You Need a Driving Record to Dismiss a Ticket
Texas law requires you to present your driving record along with your Certificate of Completion from this course. We offer a Certified Type 3A Driving Record that is specifically for dismissing a ticket in Texas. If you are trying to dismiss a ticket, the best money-saving option is our Defensive Driving + Driving Record Combo.
Dismiss Your Texas Traffic Ticket & Save Money
Complete this course if you have received an eligible traffic citation in Texas and wish to dismiss it so that it does not appear on your driving record. Dismissing the ticket will prevent your insurance rates from increasing as a result of the citation. This course may only be taken once every 12 months.
How to Dismiss Your Traffic Ticket
Faced with a traffic ticket? Here’s what you do.
1. Find Out if You are Eligible
In order to take the course, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- You hold a valid non-commercial driver’s license.
- Your citation is less than 25 MPH over the speed limit.
- You have NOT completed a defensive driving course within the past 12 months.
- You did NOT commit your infraction within a construction zone.
Make sure to ask if your court has specific forms or affidavits that it will require you to mail/bring in. You can often find copies of these specific forms to print on your court or county’s website.
2. Get Your Court’s Permission
You’ll need to request permission from the court to take our Defensive Driving course; you have until the appearance date on your citation to do so. You may do this by phone, in writing (on the back of your citation), or in person. At that time, you must plead guilty or no contest to your violation.
3. Register for Our Course

4. Complete Our Course
Our course is a state-mandated 6 hours long, but you can complete it at your own pace. You’ll take a 10-question multiple-choice quiz at the end of every chapter, and there is no final exam.
5. Submit your Certificate
Once you’re done, we’ll send a copy of your Completion Certificate to you. You’ll need to submit this and a copy of your driving record to the prosecuting court.
6. Check Your Record
Once you have submitted your Completion Certificate, the court will notify you when your dismissal has been processed. Make sure to check your driving record to be sure that your Texas Defensive Driving Course has been applied.
