Moaning Cavern

Known for centuries as the cave that moaned, inspiring the local Miwok tribe's legend of Yayaly, a cave dwelling rock monster, Moaning Cavern still emits the eerie sound today.

A daring exploration of unlit and undeveloped areas of the cave is offered in a 3-hour Adventure Trip beginning with the optional rappel. Participants crawl and climb through passageways with names like Godzilla's Nostril and the Pancake Squeeze.

Moaning Cavern holds the largest vertical chamber in a public cavern that you can see in California. In fact, it's so big, it could hold the entire Statue of Liberty!
