Fiber Art: Three Perspectives

Featuring the work of Jenni Bateman, Pernille Boving and Laurie dill-Kocher, this exhibition showcases a variety of approaches to and styles of fiber art.
Jennifer Bateman's texile art translates into what she describes as a "Woven Language." Influenced by her work across many media, Bateman views fiber art like sculpture, where fibers are both the structure and the image-makers. The materials she uses are part of her DNA, and the imagery a reflection of her everyday life, from flowers to figures in the shadows.
Pernille Boving draws on her work as a wildlife biologist and her time in Greenland to capture the essence of the pristine frozen landscape in the form of felted vessels. The synergy of smooth curves and irregularities on the vessels represent the characteristic cycles and vulnerability of life in the Arctic. For Boving, the vessel has a femininity to it, a simple representation of life and a safe keeper of secrets, wishes, laughs and dreams.
Laurie dill-Kocher's latest quilted Earth Series continues the chronicle of her personal life, based upon her concept of Heaven and earth. This series strives toward a concept that represents life and change. The idea of adaptation allows the series to be added, rotated and manipulated to change the effect that it creates. The wrapped structures in the grid-like bottoms represent the earth portion, while the quilt-like structures can be placed above the "earth" to represent heaven.
