With her deeply resonant and unique voice and music filled with atypical chord progressions and intelligent lyrics, Kate Mann invites comparisons to artists as varied as PJ Harvey, Lucinda Williams, Tom Waits, and Nick Cave. A former high-school teacher, Mann had an awakening in 2005 that led her to dedicate herself to music full time, and she has since produced two albums, the sparsely acoustic November Songs and the more robust Devil's Rope. According to fellow singer/songwriter Jeremy Serwer, her songs "take you on a southwestern journey of the nighttime world with snapshots of love lost and dangerous encounters."
