The American guitarist, Cary Savage, has studied guitar for the past 20 years. He began his musical studies at an early age studying with renown jazz guitarists Steve Greene and Frank Rumoro. His interest in classical guitar came when he discovered the playing of Christopher Parkening and Andrés Segovia. Savage then began studying classical guitar with the late Dennis Monroe. In August 2000, he completed his Bachelor of Music at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York where he studied under the direction of Nicholas Goluses. At Eastman, he also studied jazz with virtuosos Bob Sneider and Gene Bertoncini. Savage moved to Montreal, Canada in 2002 where he completed the degrees Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Montreal under the direction of Peter McCutcheon. He has also studied at the famous Domaine Forget with Bruce Holzman and performed in master-classes for guitarists such as Fabio Zanon and Vincea McClelland. Cary Savage has performed in various ensembles including a flute and guitar duo that toured the eastern coast of the USA. He has performed solo recitals at various venues including Keuka College, University of Montreal, Eastman School of Music, Canisius College, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, University of Guelph, Tsawwassen Arts Centre, Firehall Arts Centre, Memorial Art Gallery and Syracuse University, to name only a few. He has performed for the famous singer, Alice Roby who labelled his playing as 'marvelous and well-executed'. From September 2000 to May 2002, Cary Savage served on the faculty of music department at Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York. Hae regularly tutors students of all ages and levels the art of guitar playing. Other teaching experiences include directing rock and jazz ensembles at Monroe Community College and Camp Encore/Coda in Sweden, Maine. Cary Savage has released two CD's: "Transcriptions and Works for Guitar" (2008) and "Favorites: Music of J.S. Bach and Isaac Albéniz" (2009). He is currently involved in the production of an instructional DVD on playing the guitar that will be released in early 2009 by Emusic Corp. Cary Savage now resides in Montreal with his wife and two young children.
