The Psychotronic Film Society of Savannah shows obscure and/or underappreciated films from around the world every Wednesday at the Sentient Bean. Whether extremely well-made or "so bad they're good," their selections are always rare, unique and memorable.
Just in time for the holidays we offer a rare, public screening of one of the least-known, but most influential horror films of the past 40 years - Black CHRISTMAS.
Here's the original theatrical trailer:
Directed by Bob Clark (who would also later give us - ironically - the timeless, heartwarming holiday classic A Christmas Story), this low-budget "psycho on the loose in a sorority house" cult classic was made a full four years before John Carpenter directed Halloween, a movie that is widely regarded as the original, modern-day slasher film.
However, Black Christmas shares the same "masked killer terrorizing folks on a holiday" theme, and also contains plot elements that were later recycled in smash thrillers like I Know What You Did Last Summer and SCREAM.
It is widely accepted among horror film buffs that Carpenter was greatly inspired and influenced by this criminally unsung gem.
Featuring an impressive cast including Keir Dullea (2001: A Space Odyssey), Margot Kidder (Superman), John Saxon (Tenebrae, The Cynic The Rat & The Fist) and even a rare dramatic turn by Andrea Martin (SCTV), it's a first-rate chiller whose original marketing line was "If this movie doesn't make your skin crawl, it's on too tight!"
We're proud to screen the definitive, Widescreen, restored director's cut just one night before Christmas Eve. Don't you dare miss it!
Seating begins at 7:30pm for Mature Audiences Only, with special Christmas door prizes to be given away before the film begins at 8pm...
