One of the world’s most admired guitarists, John Abercrombie makes music that’s as likely to whisper as it is to scream. He was a pioneer of late ‘60s fusion and has since become a composer known for transparent textures and open-ended forms. Revered by fellow guitar masters Bill Frisell, John Scofield and Mike Stern, Abercrombie has been at the center of revelatory bands from the audacious Gateway trio (with giants Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette) to his nimble organ combo featuring Dan Wall and Adam Nussbaum. His latest group with Mark Feldman, Drew Gress and Joey Baron is perhaps his most lyrical, combining a chamber ensemble’s dynamic control with post-bop’s improvisational imperative. Their adventures have been well documented on three astonishing ECM albums, including The Third Quartet in 2007.

John Abercrombie
John Abercrombie's tying together of jazz's many threads made him one of the most influential acoustic and electric guitarists of the 1970s and early '80s; his recordings for ECM have helped define that label's progressive chamber jazz reputation.

Mark Feldman
Virtuosic violinist Mark Feldman is classically trained, but probably best known for his performances with the top improvisers and composers of the '80s and '90s in avant-garde jazz and new music.
