Joel Lane Museum House

728 W. Hargett St., Raleigh, NC, 27605
(919) 833-3431 - Venue Website

Built in the 1770’s, this landmark is Wake County’s oldest home and was the residence of Joel Lane, the “father of Raleigh”. In 1792, representatives of the newly-formed North Carolina legislature met at Lane’s to select the site for the new capital city and 1,000 acres of his plantation were purchased to become the City of Raleigh. Household furnishings and gardens are authentic to the period. Tour time is approximately 45 minutes.
