The San Jose Earthquakes are a professional soccer team competing in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS) in North America. They are two time champions of the league (2001, 2003). The club is a charter member of the MLS formation in 1995. They were originally known as the San Jose Clash until 1999 when they changed the name to the San Jose Earthquakes. The franchise was moved to Houston following the 2005 season after stadium disputes. In 2007 it was announced that San Jose would receive an expansion team, re-forming the Earthquakes franchise after a two year hiatus. All records accomplished as the San Jose Earthquakes remain with the San Jose club and did not transfer with the team to Houston.
