All Beethoven Program:
Overture TBD
Two Romances for Violin and Orchestra, Opp. 40 and 50
Symphony No. 1 in C, Op. 21
Symphony No. 3 in E-Flat, Op. 55 ("Eroica")
No one would dispute the assertion that Itzhak Perlman is the greatest violinist of his generation. His technical "chops" have no peer, but Perlman's robust, laser-like intelligence, his unpretentious spirit and his heroic energy make that artistry even more special. Is it any surprise that he now turns to conducting? He joins the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra as both maestro and soloist for an all-Beethoven program that promises to light up the sky. Perlman will play the charming, rarely heard Romances for Violin and Orchestra, then put down the violin to take up the gauntlet of two very different Beethoven symphonies: the masterfully subtle Symphony No. 1, and the epochal Symphony No. 3, known as the "Eroica." "Eroica" means "heroic," and so does Perlman's program here.
Please note that there are no discounts for this performance.
Prior to the performance, ticket-holders are invited to join us for a free Made by Hand art and craft exhibit and sale in the Prudential Hall lobby, featuring work by Thomasina Hyland (sleeved kaftans), Nick Vaverko (leather accessories and jewelry), Marianne Connors (wearable fiber), and Soli Pierce (wooden housewares).November
