This year, The Howlin' Wolf is celebrating 20 years of bringing music to New Orleans, and on March 6th will expand to the NorthShore. From its' humble beginnings in a small room in Fat City, to its' current location in the heart of the Warehouse District, the Howlin' Wolf name has become synonymous with live performance and bringing music that seems to bubble up from the city streets.
Started by the Groetsch brothers, Jack and Jeff, the Wolf has grown and evolved with the musicians and fans that call it home. Our current home, once the New Orleans Music Hall, is designed with the fan in mind, a short wide room with great sight lines and tremendous acoustics. The bar is hand carved mahogany taken directly from Al Capone's hotel, the Lexington, in Chicago and the exterior is an exquisite mural created by the renowned New Orleans artist, Michealopelous.
Preformers over the years have included; Foo Fighters, Ozomatli, Better Than Ezra Keith Urban, Jimmy Page, Harry Connivk Jr., Barenaked Ladies, Arturo Sandoval, Derek Trucks, Alanis Morisette, Medeski, Martin, and Wood, Cowby Mouth and Steve Winwood (just to name a few). This list does not even begin to include the thousands of performances from local musicians that have been our heart and soul.
The Howlin' Wolf is not only home to some of New Orleans favorite musicians, but also plays host to many of New Orleans' private and non-profit organizations fundraisers and private events. The Wolf's impact on the community both before and after the storm has been tremendous. The Howlin' Wolf's nonprofit division has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for numerous charities, which include; Habitat for Humanity, Global Green, the Preservation Resource Center, Susan Komen Foundation, National MS Society, Make A Wish Foundation and The New Orleans Musicians Clinic and many more.
A recent addition to the Howlin' Wolf family has been, The Rebirth Brass Band who are not only the premier band in New Orleans, but the country. And our event staff has assisted a wide variety of clients including NO Seafood Festival, Entercom, WDSU, Abita, Miller Brewing Co., LG Electronics, MTV/ BET and The VooDoo Music Experience
