The second production of Theatre UNO's 2009-2010 Season continues our longstanding tradition of showcasing student playwrights with an original script written by Bradley Troll. Verses from Jordan will run in the Robert E. Nims Theatre November 5-7 and 12-15. This production will be directed by Marshall Carby, director of last seasons Indifferent Blue.
Verses from Jordan tells the story of Jordan, a young, inexperienced composition professor. Jordan is intelligent, curious, private, passionate, disconnected, determined, and lost. In a word, Jordan is human. Jordan is also a bug chaser he is actively pursuing the HIV infection. This play follows Jordan on his journey, beginning with his desire to receive this gift and culminating with his acceptance of the life he has chosen for himself. Assisting Jordan on this journey are some surprising characters including two historical poets.
We are, by now, all aware of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), a virus that weakens the immune system. Its for this reason that it may be hard to understand why anyone would seek out this infection. But there is a subculture of homosexual men that do just that. Verses from Jordan neither seeks to defend nor promote these activities, but sees it as another way to understand the extraordinary experiences of being human.
Verses from Jordan will be our entry in this years Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival which will be held on UNOs campus November 18-21. This festival will bring schools from across the state of Louisiana together for 4 days of plays, workshops, and networking.
