Scott Wright: Paintings and Works on Paper 1989-2009

Scott Wright’s large-scale paintings grow out of digital photographs taken while over-flying the rivers, marshes, and landforms of the Mid-Atlantic region in a small plane. According to Wright, his work “seeks out places where the landscape takes on the appearance of vast abstract canvases, where humans and nature collaborate to generate living artwork based on layered patterns of growth, entropy and renewal.” He sees the landscape metaphorically, especially the “connection between the human body’s physiology and the mechanics of the greater landscape. This is especially true in the ways the circulatory system works on both scales.”
