Luigi Rist: Master Printmaker Exhibit

Exhibition focusing on the print making of Luigi Rist (1888-1959). Trained as a traditional oil painter, Luigi Rist did not begin print making until he was in his forties. He attended an exhibit of traditional Japanese prints that inspired him to learn the traditional woodblock printmaking process.
Producing only forty known works (along with works left unfinished at the time of his death), Rist created highly detailed prints marked by nuanced, painterly variations in tone and texture. While Rist’s subject matter was not avant-garde, his mastery of color technique gained him awards and notoriety.
