The John MacInnes Student Ice Arena is home to many traditions when the Michigan Tech Mens Hockey team hosts home games. The oldest and by far the most well know to fans of College Hockey is the Copper Country Anthem. The tradition was started as and insult to Polka music that was popular at the time. The song Blue Skirt Waltz was taken and slowed down as a bastardization of the song, people raised from their seats and began to sway to add insult. From that day on, the Copper Country Anthem was played people get up and sway between every 2nd and 3rd period. Another great tradition is the playing of "In Heaven There Is No Beer" played by the Huskies Pep Band, members of the band have added extra verses to the song many making reference things such as snow, referees, sex, and marijuana. The student section of the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena who STAND (stand is emphasized because they do NOT sit during any game play) in section 'L' are know to be some of the best fans of College hockey and have many traditions that occur at most home and some away games as far away as Alaska.
