Join Westmoreland Curator Barbara Jones for the continuing series examining Art in America, 1750 - 1950. Realism and Modernism coexisted as styles in the early decades of the twentieth century when artists were investigating new approaches to expression. The AshCan School realists shocked the public with their scenes of back alleys and dirty urban streets while the modernists reacted to the changing styles in Europe and explored abstraction. The art of Robert Henri, John Sloan, George Luks, and the Eight, George Bellows, Stuart Davis, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Arthur Dove, among others, will be discussed.
