Considered by critics and jazz fans alike to be among the planet’s best post-bop, smallband ensembles for a decade plus dating to the mid-1980s, Bobby Watson & Horizon issued one great recording after another for the Blue Note and Columbia record labels. The group, touring almost incessantly, always left audiences smiling. The cohesive unit owned a post-Art Blakey sensibility that leader Watson and some of the other members absorbed directly from the legendary drummer-leader.
