Newton Hills State Park, located 6 miles south of Canton, is part of a geological feature called the Coteau des Prairie. This narrow strip of rolling hills and forests was created by glaciers and extends along the eastern edge of South Dakota. At its highest point, the Coteau rises to more than 2,000 feet above sea level.
The park's shaded campgrounds and scenic vistas attract visitors from across the nation. Lake Lakota, found near the southeast corner of the park, is filled with bass, catfish, panfish and perch. It's also a great place to swim or enjoy a sunny day!
