The program includes Berlioz's Benvenuto Cellini: Overture; Puts' John Brown’s Body; Barber's Adagio for Strings; Ayers' The Passion of John Brown (Premiere) and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, Eroica.

John Brown's passionate words both inspired and inflamed a nation. Another controversial figure inspired Beethoven's "Eroica" symphony, originally dedicated to Napoleon.
